SurgerySince it was established in 2006, the Scholarship Program of the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) has supported residency applicants from Syria by providing interest free loans. The total number of scholarships over the past seven years has reached 112 students.

This year, with the contributions of prior scholarship applicants and the generous donations of members, SAMS awarded a total of $73,500 to 29 Syrian graduates from medical schools of Damascus, Aleppo, Albaath, Alkalamoon, Teshreen, and Alfaisal Universities. These students are seeking medical training and school in the United States. The individual scholarship amounts ranged from $1,000 to $3,500.

Thank you to the SAMS Scholarship Committee, its founder Dr. Tarek Kteleh, current chair Dr. Bassel Atassi, the members who interviewed all the applicants in 10 different US states and 2 other countries, and our donors who ensured funding for this valuable program for the enrichment and continuation of Syrian medical education.
