This holiday season, help families heal. Rush life-saving medical care to conflict-affected populations in Syria, neighboring countries, and beyond.

A Decade of
Crisis in Syria

Over the past ten years, the conflict in Syria has caused at least 12 million civilians to flee their homes, triggering one of the worst humanitarian crises in modern times. At least 13.4 million Syrians are in need of humanitarian assistance, including thousands of displaced families struggling to access food, water, shelter, and healthcare. In 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic, continued bombardment, and ongoing economic decline, have further exacerbated an already-dire humanitarian situation. Weakened by years of conflict, Syria’s fragile healthcare system is struggling to meet the population’s complex health needs, which have increased dramatically due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

SAMS’
Impact

SAMS continues to expand its operations to respond and meet growing medical needs in Syria, neighboring countries, and beyond.

From the beginning of the conflict, SAMS has been on the frontlines of humanitarian efforts in Syria, providing nearly 20 million medical services free of charge to those in need and delivering $207 million in vital humanitarian aid to people in Syria, neighboring countries, and beyond. SAMS’ medical personnel deliver an average of 150,000 services per month, including childbirth, surgeries, cancer treatment, dialysis, physical therapy, mental health services, and much more at 35 facilities in Syria, free of charge to patients in need. SAMS also supports the healthcare needs of Syrian refugees and vulnerable populations in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Greece, Iraq, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and beyond.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, SAMS has played a leading role in the health system’s response, establishing 5 COVID-19 hospital-based isolation and treatment units in Syria, supporting frontline healthcare workers via telemedicine and training, coordinating with the WHO and local partners, improving preparedness and surveillance, distributing oxygen, PPE and other critical medical supplies and equipment, implementing community awareness campaigns, participating in the Syria Immunization Group, and advocating for and supporting the vaccination of healthcare workers and civilians against COVID-19.

Before I came to this hospital, no one knew my condition or what caused it. After coming here and getting diagnosed with the virus, I’m thankful to the medical staff who treated me and saved my life."
