SAMS to Deploy Medical Volunteers Across Syria This Summer, Delivering Lifesaving Care to Vulnerable Communities

Washington, D.C. – June 24, 2025 – The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) is launching its largest medical mission to date, mobilizing international healthcare professionals to serve communities across Syria from late June through mid-July. This critical initiative will deploy doctors, surgeons, nurses, dentists, and medical students to provide specialized, lifesaving care in some of Syria’s most underserved and conflict-affected regions.

The medical missions will cover hospitals and clinics spanning areas across Syria with long-standing gaps in access to quality healthcare. SAMS volunteers will deliver a comprehensive range of services, including advanced procedures, clinical consultations, and professional training to local medical teams.

“Bringing together such a diverse group of medical specialists to serve Syrians in need is a powerful demonstration of SAMS’ mission and volunteer spirit,” said SAMS President, Dr. Mufaddal Hamadeh. “Every procedure, consultation, and training session helps rebuild a shattered health system and, most importantly, saves lives.”

SAMS’ medical missions will bring an impressive range of specialties to patients across Syria, covering everything from cardiology, oncology, and emergency medicine to pediatrics, surgery, and advanced dental care. Teams will also provide support in areas like endocrinology, nephrology, ophthalmology, and critical care, ensuring that patients in even the most underserved regions receive the expert attention they need.

The missions are strategically timed to coincide with SAMS’ Damascus Conference, the first-ever in free Syria, which will facilitate professional collaboration and knowledge exchange alongside direct patient care. This approach ensures both immediate treatment and lasting impact through education and mentorship.

SAMS is committed to restoring dignity and health to Syrian communities which faced a prolonged humanitarian crisis during the 14-year war. By combining clinical care with capacity-building, these missions aim to strengthen Syria’s fragile healthcare infrastructure and inspire hope for a healthier future.

About the Healthcare Crisis
Fourteen years into Syria’s conflict, the healthcare system remains fractured and severely under-resourced. Over 70% of healthcare professionals have been displaced, and millions lack access to specialized care. SAMS missions like this one are essential not only for direct intervention but for building a new foundation of clinical knowledge, mentorship, and sustainable care delivery.
