Role Summary/ Purpose:

SAMS is looking for a full-time Mental Health and Psychosocial Program Specialist to join the Programs & Business development HQ team and lead further development of existing MHPSS projects in the countries where SAMS teams work and expansion into new services and locations with establishing stronger collaboration with leading organizations in the field of mental health and securing new sponsorship:

  • Design and monitor high-quality MHPSS programming for different countries where SAMS operates, in collaboration with the MHPSS technical committee, field MHPSS staff, and different program managers. Special focus on staff care and women and child related programs
  • Support the professional and technical development of the fields MHPSS teams
  • Oversee the technical quality of programming and technical expertise of the hired staff for different projects
  • Prepare a master training plan and reference material for MHPSS teams’ capacity-building addressing different topics such as case management, psychologic and evidence-based counselling modalities, the development and implementation of group-based programming and needs assessment
  • Create a system for clinical supervision, by competent peers, to staff offering mental health and psychosocial support services and create a peer built on foundations of knowledge exchange
  • Support the field MHPSS supervisors in adopting essential psychotropic medication list, indications and consumption tracking
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure high quality services are being provided in line with adopted MHPSS protocols and relevant academic and international guidelines
  • Support and coordinate the implementation of a research projects aiming to establish evidence-based MHPSS programming, including research partners communications and monitoring of the rollout of the intervention
  • Contribute to MHPSS projects proposal writing, donor reports and internal reports as required and develop or revise MHPSS monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Work closely with programs and business development HQ team and country offices program/grant teams to pursue funding opportunities for SAMS MHPSS existing and new projects
  • Attend and participate in MHPSS forums and conferences and represent SAMS in relevant academic events to establish future working relationship     

Qualifications:

  • Mental health professional with MA/S or equivalent in social science – psychology, clinical social work or sociology – is required. Knowledge of public health, protection, human rights, international development, or other relevant field a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience (including in the field) of progressively responsible professional experience in MHPSS humanitarian work, including in emergencies, conflict settings, and prolonged displacements
  • Knowledgeable in and experienced using the IASC MHPSS guidelines and best practices and familiarity of the integration of mental health into primary health care settings
  • Experience providing clinical supervision in individual and group settings and setting up supervisory models for large-scale MHPSS programs
  • Experience conducting MHPSS-related trainings and development of training materials
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments
  • Ability to travel
