Role Summary/Purpose:

The Operations Officer will be responsible to carry out the following tasks:

  1. Assist in the coordination of the official registration, organization and administration of the start-up programme activities for SAMS’s operation in Iraq and ensure delivery of support services related to the programme
  2. Prepare monthly and quarterly operations reports to SAMS’s HQ and relevant reports accordance with donor requirements and internal procedures
  3. Maintain accurate financial records, obtain authorization of expenses prior to payments and respect budget lines
  4. Establish and maintain close relationships with local authorities, civil society, key individuals, and other stakeholders that are essential for the success and expansion of SAMS’s operation in Iraq
  5. Assist in planning and implementation of SAMS medical missions in Iraq
  6. Develop of implement protocols and processes for medical missions
  7. Support on the ground logistical functions for operations and medical missions, such as securing safe accommodation, transport and serve as a security focal point
  8. Connect with promising and innovative international and local NGOs to explore new channels for partnership
  9. Attend meetings locally or at the regional level that addresses the refugee crisis, relief work
  10. Identify new opportunities for SAMS to provide its services in new areas, identify emerging needs and vulnerable population
  11. Assist in setting up clinics in approved areas designated for SAMS to provide medical relief
  12. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Degree in Human Rights, logistics, international relations, healthcare, Public health, international development, program management, or related field
  • At least 3 years’ experience with an NGO or international agency
  • Good knowledge of the Iraqi emerging environment (institutions, civil society) and emergency environment
  • Demonstrated skills in project management. Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities;
  • Experience liaising with community and organizational leaders, donors, government officials and representatives from other agencies
  • Experience managing projects funded by international donors would be an added advantage;
  • Strong organizational skills, team management, and communication;
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability and flexibility to understand different cultural and political environments;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be a legal resident in Kurdistan, Iraq
